History
- Before European exploration, the region was inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Arapaho, Shoshone, Cheyenne, Crow, and Sioux. These tribes lived off the land, hunting buffalo and other game.
- The Wyoming Territory was established in 1868. It was carved out from parts of the Dakota, Utah, and Idaho territories.
- Wyoming was the first U.S. territory and state to grant women the right to vote in 1869, earning it the nickname "The Equality State."
- Wyoming became the 44th state of the United States on July 10, 1890.
Geography and Climate
Wyoming is located in the Mountain West subregion of the Western United States. It is bordered by Montana to the north, South Dakota and Nebraska to the east, Colorado to the south, Utah to the southwest, and Idaho to the west.
Wyoming is characterized by its diverse landscape, which includes mountain ranges, high plains, and basins. The Rocky Mountains dominate the western part of the state, while the eastern part consists of the High Plains.
